Liverpool star Mo Salah REJECTS offer of luxury gift as reward for firing Egypt to World Cup

Liverpool star Mo Salah has turned down the offer of a luxury villa for firing Egypt to the World Cup.
The Reds flier has instead asked the Egyptian businessman behind the gesture to make a donation to his home village, report the Liverpool Echo.

Sources in the north African country say that Salah was contacted by Mamdouh Abbas, the former president of the club Zamalek in his homeland, after the dramatic 2-1 victory over Congo earlier this month.
Abbas wanted Salah to have the holiday villa as a gift in recognition of the part he played in the Pharaohs reaching their first World Cup since 1990.
However, the 25-year-old politely declined and said a donation to Nagrig village in Gharbiya province, which is around 150km from the capital Cairo, would make him happier.
Already a national hero in Egypt, Salah’s stock reached new heights after scoring with a 94th minute penalty against Congo in the Borg El Arab Stadium.
The governor of Gharbiya renamed the player’s former school in Basioun ‘Mohamed Salah Industrial High School’. Nagrig’s youth centre is also being renamed in his honour.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah's row with the Egyptian federation looms over start of a new era under Javier Aguirre

Mohamed Salah's series of spats with his national soccer association will loom over the Egypt team as it attempts to recover from a poor — some called it disastrous — World Cup when African Cup qualifying recommences this weekend.
The Liverpool forward appears to have won his latest tussle with the Egyptian soccer association after demanding better organisation and more protection for players who were exposed to a politically-charged environment at the World Cup, where Egypt lost all its games.

Salah's unhappiness stemmed from photo opportunities he and others were apparently cajoled into attending in Russia with Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov , who is accused of human rights abuses.
With his latest demands met, Salah, who has previously argued with the federation over his image rights , is with the Egypt squad for Saturday's qualifier against Niger.
All five of the African teams that disappointed at the World Cup — no team from the continent made the knockout stage — are in action over the weekend and looking to ease their Russian hangovers.
Many of them, Egypt included, are currently out of the qualifying places and have work to do to make sure they play at the African Cup of Nations next year in Cameroon.

The sidelined Liverpool stars now set to have big part in Jurgen Klopp's plans

With the Premier League set to resume after the first international break of the season, it may seem premature to suggest Liverpool are about to head into a decisive period of the campaign.
The Reds are currently top of the table having won all four of their games so far, conceding just one goal along the way.

Summer signings Alisson and Naby Keita have settled in well, with manager Jurgen Klopp making just one change to his starting XI across Liverpool’s opening four matches.
While things look rosy for the Reds now, Klopp’s men will be well aware of the challenges that await them over the next month before the October international break.
The Champions League group-stages get underway next week as Liverpool follow up Saturday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur by hosting Paris Saint-Germain.
They then welcome Southampton to Anfield in the league before playing hosts once again with Chelsea the visitors to Merseyside in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Back in league action as they face Chelsea for a second time in quick succession, this time at Stamford Bridge, they then travel to Napoli in the Champions League before hosting Premier League champions Manchester City in their final outing before the next round of international call-ups.
Although boasting an 100% winning record so far, Klopp will have expected maximum points from what was a straightforward opening to the campaign on paper.
Numerous clashes against fellow league title challengers and Champions League hopefuls in quick-succession has the potential to define Liverpool’s season, as supporters prepare to find out how serious contenders their side will be this year.
And having strengthened their squad in the summer so they could compete on multiple fronts this season, the upcoming month will be the first real test of the Reds’ depth.

Move on Lionel Messi - How Mohamed Salah has helped end Barcelona star's dominance

After taking Anfield by storm last season with an astonishing 44 goals goals as Liverpool reached the Champions League Final, supporters were already talking about Mohamed Salah in the same breath as the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
For over a decade it has been the same two names at the top of the world football table, battling for the biggest trophies at club-level and exchanging the likes of the Ballon d’Or on an annual basis.

As age begins to catch up with the duo and they find themselves on the wrong side of 30, Neymar was seen as the natural successor while the Brazilian’s Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe is another destined for stardom after wowing at this summer’s World Cup.
Liverpool will have to worry about both players when this season’s Champions League gets underway after the September international break, yet it is Salah who has taken the first steps at ending Ronaldo and Messi’s decade-long domination.
The Egyptian has been shortlisted for The Best FIFA Men's Player Award ahead of the FIFA Football Awards later this month, becoming the first Premier League player to be up for the award since 2008.
He is also the first African confederation footballer to reach the final three shortlist since Samuel Eto'o in 2005.
His competition stands in the form of Ronaldo (the last Premier League winner) and Luka Modric. For the first time since 2006, Messi did not make the cut.
Reigning holder Ronaldo was always going to be in contention after helping Real Madrid win the Champions League for a third season in a row.
The Portuguese matched Salah’s total of 44 goals across all competitions before impressing for his homeland at the World Cup in Russia, memorably scoring a hat-trick against Spain.
Meanwhile, Modric too shone over the summer as Croatia reached the World Cup Final, walking away with the Golden Ball award for best player despite their defeat to France to add another trophy to his ever-growing collection with Real Madrid.

Mohamed Salah signs new Liverpool contract to 2023 and is hailed by Klopp

Liverpool have secured Mohamed Salah on a new five-year contract that Jürgen Klopp believes provides further evidence of the progress being made at Anfield.
The Egypt international has committed his future to Liverpool until 2023 in a lucrative deal that does not contain a release clause. Salah was widely coveted following a phenomenal debut season at Anfield that brought 44 goals in 52 appearances at club level and, as expected, has followed Roberto Firmino in committing to Klopp’s team for the long term. Sadio Mané is also in line for a new and improved contract at Liverpool.

Salah’s form and global status has soared since he joined Liverpool on a five-year deal from Roma last summer. Negotiations on a new contract started with the 26-year-old’s agent, Ramy Abbas, before the end of a stunning debut season with Liverpool that brought a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League and a Champions League final appearance. Salah was forced out of the final defeat to Real Madrid with a shoulder injury but he returned to make two appearances for Egypt at the World Cup.
No financial details have been announced about the forward’s new deal but he is expected to have doubled his wage to around £200,000 a week. The absence of a release clause ensures Liverpool are in a strong position should a rival suitor, such as Real Madrid, step up their interest in Salah in the future.
Klopp, who was back at Melwood on Monday for the start of pre-season training, said: “I think this news can be seen for what it is: rewarding a person who performed and contributed greatly for the team and the club last season. It demonstrates two things very clearly also – his belief in Liverpool and our belief in him. We want world-class talent to see they have a home at Anfield where they can fulfil all their professional dreams and ambitions – we are working hard together to achieve this.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah reopens image rights row with Egyptian FA

Mohamed Salah has revived a dispute with Egypt’s football association and accused them of ignoring his complaints over image rights.
The 26-year-old Liverpool forward was upset in April when his image was used to promote Egypt’s official sponsor WE; Salah has a sponsorship deal with Vodafone.

“It’s normal that a football federation seeks to solve the problems of its players so they can feel comfortable,” Salah wrote on Twitter. “But in fact, what I see is exactly the opposite.
“It is not normal that my messages and my lawyer’s messages are ignored. I don’t know why all this [is happening]. Do you not have time to respond to us?!”
The Egyptian Football Association said in a statement it would address a letter sent by Salah’s lawyer, Ramy Abbas, on Monday.
Abbas tweeted: “We asked for guarantees regarding Mohamed’s wellbeing whilst with the national team, and assurances that the image rights violations wouldn’t happen again. That’s all. They have yet to respond.”

Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane nominated for prestigious FIFA award

Liverpool have four players named on the 55-man shortlist for the FIFPro World XI that is named later this month.
Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are the quartet of Reds stars who received the nod from some of the 25,000 professionals who voted across 65 countries.

The World XI - which theoretically plays a 4-3-3 formation - will be announced at a FIFA and FIFPro ceremony in London on Monday September 24.
Van Dijk joined the Reds in January and played a big part in helping Jurgen Klopp's Reds to the Champions League final and a top-four finish in the second half of the campaign.
The world's most expensive defender's £75million arrival from Southampton coincided with a huge upturn in defensive fortunes for the Reds and Liverpool eventually went on to record their most number of clean sheets since 2010 with 17.

How Liverpool and Mohamed Salah contributed to Harry Kane's recent fitness fears

Mauricio Pochettino should consider resting Harry Kane for Tottenham's clash with Liverpool after fresh claims of the England international suffering fatigue.
And Mohamed Salah's goalscoring feats from last season have partly been blamed for the Spurs striker's recent troubles.

Kane was a second half substitute in the friendly win over Switzerland on Tuesday, after playing 90 minutes in the UEFA Nations League defeat to Spain.
After a sluggish start to the campaign following his World Cup heroics - albeit scoring in August for the first time, and notching two goals so far - debate has raged over whether Kane is at peak fitness following a heavy workload.
The 25-year-old injured his ankle in March but missed little playing time for his club as he tried to chase down Salah at the top of the goalscoring charts, and looked visibly tired in Russia, despite winning the Golden Boot with six goals.
Salah would triumph in their Premier League battle with a record 32 goals - two more than Kane - and former Liverpool man Craig Bellamy believes the Egyptian's efforts have seen Kane push his body to the limit.
"One thing I love about Harry Kane is his hunger and his motivation," he said. "He was after top goalscorer, he wanted to beat Salah. He would have rushed his injury back, he seems like that type of kid. He wants the goals.
"He would have had little time off (after the World Cup), but in his own head, believes: I've got to go in and hit the ground running. I've got to sort this August out because that might have cost me the golden boot last year, I have to make sure I'm playing first couple of games of the season."
Kane will go head-to-head with Salah once more at Wembley on Saturday as the Reds look to avenge last season's 4-1 defeat.
Bellamy, however, thinks Kane should have been rested at the start of the season - and wouldn't rule out doing so now.

Mohamed Salah wins dispute with Egypt FA with Liverpool star receiving bolstered security on international duty

Mohamed Salah has won his battle with the Egyptian FA.
The Liverpool star will now have a bolstered security team looking after him when he is on international duty.

Salah says that he was being harassed while he was away representing his country, claiming that he was being woken up in the early hours of the morning by adoring fans.
He had told Egypt officials that he needed at least two bodyguards in order to protect him from supporters.
EFA chiefs hit back at Salah with a strongly-worded letter, insisting that no player would be receiving superstar treatment.

Mo Salah explains why Naby Keita's arrival at Liverpool was so important for Sadio Mane

Mo Salah has joked that Sadio Mane was "lonely" at Liverpool before the Reds signed Naby Keita in the summer.
Keita - who shares the same agent group as Mane - finally arrived on Merseyside from RB Leipzig prior to this season having been snapped up last summer, and he's started in three of the opening four games as the Reds have gone to the top of the table.

And in a jokey video published on Liverpool's YouTube channel , Salah says that the Guinean's arrival from crucial for Mane - Liverpool's top scorer this season - because he didn't have any friends before that!

Mo Salah and Sadio Mane AGREE on which one of the lightning quick Liverpool pair is the fastest

Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are on the same page when it comes to deciding which one of the pair is the fastest.
The duo form two-thirds of Liverpool's much-vaunted attack, and along with Roberto Firmino have inspired the Reds to reach the top of the Premier League table after four matches of the campaign.

Salah's 44 goals in his first season at Liverpool lit up the campaign and took the Reds to the Champions League final as well as a top four finish, but the early signs in 2018/19 are that Mane could be taking over his goalscoring crown.

Sergio Ramos insists "my conscience is really clear" over Mohamed Salah injury in Champions League final

Sergio Ramos insists his conscience is clear over his clash with Mohamed Salah and has no concerns about a Wembley backlash.
Spain captain Ramos will play in England for the first time since his challenge left Liverpool star Salah with a dislocated shoulder that forced the Egyptian out of May's Champions League final.

Ramos said: “I’m not really concerned about that [reaction].
“I never wanted to hurt a colleague on the pitch, of course, so my conscience is really clear about what I did that night.

Mohamed Salah explains why Sadio Mane doesn't like one of the Liverpool fitness coaches

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane took part in a Q&A this week - in the hope it would make the international break a little less painful for everyone.
The pair took part in a 'Mr and Mrs' style game in which one was asked questions about the other while they had headphones on, so they couldn't hear the answers.
The person with the headphones on would later be asked the same question about themselves to see if the answers match - to determine whether they truly are 'bezzies'.

In the Q&A we learnt everything from how Salah takes his coffee to what Mane's favourite physical feature is. And we also learnt that Mane isn't exactly best pals with one of Liverpool's backroom staff members.
In the clip below, Salah is asked to reveal Mane's favourite member of staff at Melwood out of 'Dave the fitness coach, Mona the nutritionist and Carol the canteen legend.'
Answering the question, Salah says: "His favourite is not Dave. Mona, she's very nice, everyone loves her. She's so cool and she's helpful."

Mohamed Salah scores two, assists two and misses two penalties in incredible win

Mohamed Salah scored two goals, assisted a further two and missed two penalties as Egypt sensationally beat Niger 6-0.
The Liverpool forward was seemingly at the heart of everything in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and it all started in the first minute.

The hosts were awarded a penalty inside 60 seconds but Salah saw his effort saved.
It didn't take long for the Egyptian to make up for his miss, setting up Marwan Mohsen for the game's opener on minute 13.
Ayman Ashraf doubled Egypt's lead before the Reds winger saw yet another penalty saved. This time Salah took advantage of the rebound to stroke home his side's third.
The 26-year-old turned provider once again setting up Salah Mohsen before heading in Egypt's fifth.

FIFA 19 ratings: Players 30-21 revealed and include Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho

Mohamed Salah may be on course to win a historic Balon d’Or.
But the Liverpool star is ranked 27th among the best players on the new FIFA 19.

The game is released later this month with the Top 100 rated footballers being named beforehand.
The latest list published by game makers EA Sports sees Salah in 27th place in the 30-21 section.
He is joined by former Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho and Manchester City star David Silva.
Check out the latest ratings below.

FIFA 19 top 10 player ratings list contains NO Mohamed Salah - and Liverpool fans are furious

Mohamed Salah is NOT one of the ten best players in the world.
That's according to FIFA 19, who has left last season's Golden Boot winner out of its top ten list, and placed him behind the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the pecking order.

EA Sports has been releasing its top 100 ratings in dribs and drabs over the past week, and on Monday unveiled the list of players rated 30-21.
The list contains some quality footballers from Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho and Real Madrid's Marcelo to recent World Cup winner Hugo Lloris, but perhaps to the surprise of many, Salah also features.

Many had expected Salah to be named in the top ten following his incredible season with Liverpool.
The Egyptian led the Reds to the Champions League final, and won both the Golden Boot and PFA Players' Player of the Year in the Premier League.
He's recently been nominated alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric to win the coveted FIFA Best Player award - Lionel Messi was snubbed.

Salah rejects talk of Egypt rift as World Cup exit confirmed

Mohamed Salah insists there has been no discord in the Egypt camp despite their impending early exit from the World Cup.

Pharaohs' elimination confirmed by Uruguay win over Saudis

Egypt's fate was confirmed on Wednesday as Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 to ensure both the South American nation and hosts Russia will progress to the last 16 from Group A.

Having watched a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay from the bench, Salah made his first appearance since suffering an injury in the Champions League final as Egypt's hopes were all but ended in a 3-1 loss to Russia on Tuesday.

"Absolutely no conflict between us", says Salah

Following confirmation of his country's elimination, Salah put talk of a rift in the squad to bed, posting on Twitter: "Everyone in Egypt is together and there is absolutely no conflict between us. We respect each other and the relationship is the best."
Egypt will round off their campaign with a clash against Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Salah won't leave World Cup, says Egypt FA boss

Mohamed Salah will not be leaving the World Cup early despite his team's elimination, according to Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Hany Abo Rida.

Rumoured Salah could leave World Cup early after Egypt exit

Egypt lost their opening two matches in Group A, 1-0 to Uruguay and 3-1 to Russia respectively, leaving them unable to progress to the round of 16.
The team qualified convincingly to secure their first appearance on the big stage since 1990, only for star player Salah to suffer a shoulder injury in Liverpool's Champions League final loss to Real Madrid last month.
He missed Egypt's opening defeat and returned to score a consolation penalty against the hosts, but has been forced to deny rumours of a rift within the national team camp.

"We're all perplexed by what has been published"

And Abo Rida has also rejected suggestions the 26-year-old could depart the tournament before the dead rubber against Saudi Arabia, who have also been eliminated.
"I have no idea about Liverpool," the EFA boss told reporters.
"But we have our captain Mohamed Salah and under the rules Fifa requires him to be inside his camp and requires him to stay with his team.
"He is happy to mingle with his team-mates and he was shocked by what the press has written about him and denied it all on social media.
"We're all perplexed by what has been published and have no idea where it came from."

Egyptian media explain reason behind Salah's latest row with Egyptian FA

Speculation had grown over the weekend that Mohamed Salah would leave the World Cup prematurely because of a disagreement with the Egyptian Football Federation. But in the end, it turns out that the Liverpool striker will play in his country’s final game against Saudi Arabia this evening.
The Egyptian team have been based in the Chechnyan capital, Grozny for the duration of the World Cup. And according to Egyptian media Globoesporte, Salah was upset following a meeting between the Egyptian team and the leader of the Republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadirov, who posted a photograph of himself and the Egyptian star on social media, and named the player as an honorary citizen of the Republic of Chechnya.

Salah was pictured smiling together with Kadirov at a gala dinner on Friday night, during which he received a badge and a copy of the decree of his citizenship. The player was reportedly bothered by that fact that Kadirov used his image without his consent and for political means.
This is the second time Salah has had a disagreement with the Egyptian Federation over the unauthorized use of his image. In April the player was angered by the use of his image on the national team plane, which appeared alongside the logo of the official team sponsor WE. Salah has a sponsorship deal with a rival telecommunications firm, Vodafone.

Mohamed Salah signs new long-term deal with Liverpool

Super Salah signs

Salah had a remarkable first season with Liverpool, scoring 44 goals in all competitions and helping the club reach the Champions League final. He was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year.
"I think this news can be seen for what it is; rewarding a person who performed and contributed greatly for the team and the club last season," manager Jürgen Klopp told the club's website.

Klopp: it's all about belief

"It demonstrates two things very clearly also - his belief in Liverpool and our belief in him."
"Mo reflects where we are as a team, I think. Last season was special with many special moments - but we want more."
The 26-year-old netted 32 times in the Premier League, breaking the record for the most goals scored in a 38-game season, and helped the Merseyside club to a fourth-place finish.

Salah recounts driving mishaps: "I had a couple of accidents"

Plundering goals appeared easy for Mohamed Salah upon his arrival at Liverpoollast year, but adjusting to British road conditions was apparently more of an issue for the Egypt star. The Reds signed Salah from Roma for an initial fee of £36.9million in June 2017, and he repaid that investment handsomely by scoring 44 times in all competitions

Keep left

The 26-year-old had already experienced a taste of life in the UK after moving from Basel to Chelsea in 2014. But it seems getting behind the wheel remained a tricky prospect following his big-money switch to Merseyside.

Hitting the curb

"In the first few week it was hard, I had couple of accidents when I did drive on the sidewalk, but then everything worked just fine," he said during a commercial appearance with two Egyptian actors.

Asked what his favourite prize is of the many accolades he accumulated in 2017-18, Salah replied: "[The Premier League's] golden boot for sure, I had to work hard for that, and concentrate on every match to score, also I had to fight for it with a great players as Harry Kane and [Sergio] 'Kun' Aguero."

Salah recalls a particularly eager autograph hunter

A hugely popular figure in his home country, Salah revealed that on one occasion, a seemingly brief act of generosity with a supporter left him facing a steady influx of well-wishers arriving at his home.  "Once I was at home in Egypt, a fan knocked my door and asked to take a picture with me, I agreed, two hours later he came back with about eight people and asked me to take pictures with them and I agreed," he said. "At night the door knocked again, I opened and found him and there is a bus behind him full of people, I asked him 'what are you trying to do?'. He told me that he told them to come take pictures with Salah, and that he is going to bring more people the next day..."
