Salah rejects talk of Egypt rift as World Cup exit confirmed

Mohamed Salah insists there has been no discord in the Egypt camp despite their impending early exit from the World Cup.

Pharaohs' elimination confirmed by Uruguay win over Saudis

Egypt's fate was confirmed on Wednesday as Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 to ensure both the South American nation and hosts Russia will progress to the last 16 from Group A.

Having watched a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay from the bench, Salah made his first appearance since suffering an injury in the Champions League final as Egypt's hopes were all but ended in a 3-1 loss to Russia on Tuesday.

"Absolutely no conflict between us", says Salah

Following confirmation of his country's elimination, Salah put talk of a rift in the squad to bed, posting on Twitter: "Everyone in Egypt is together and there is absolutely no conflict between us. We respect each other and the relationship is the best."
Egypt will round off their campaign with a clash against Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Salah won't leave World Cup, says Egypt FA boss

Mohamed Salah will not be leaving the World Cup early despite his team's elimination, according to Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Hany Abo Rida.

Rumoured Salah could leave World Cup early after Egypt exit

Egypt lost their opening two matches in Group A, 1-0 to Uruguay and 3-1 to Russia respectively, leaving them unable to progress to the round of 16.
The team qualified convincingly to secure their first appearance on the big stage since 1990, only for star player Salah to suffer a shoulder injury in Liverpool's Champions League final loss to Real Madrid last month.
He missed Egypt's opening defeat and returned to score a consolation penalty against the hosts, but has been forced to deny rumours of a rift within the national team camp.

"We're all perplexed by what has been published"

And Abo Rida has also rejected suggestions the 26-year-old could depart the tournament before the dead rubber against Saudi Arabia, who have also been eliminated.
"I have no idea about Liverpool," the EFA boss told reporters.
"But we have our captain Mohamed Salah and under the rules Fifa requires him to be inside his camp and requires him to stay with his team.
"He is happy to mingle with his team-mates and he was shocked by what the press has written about him and denied it all on social media.
"We're all perplexed by what has been published and have no idea where it came from."

Egyptian media explain reason behind Salah's latest row with Egyptian FA

Speculation had grown over the weekend that Mohamed Salah would leave the World Cup prematurely because of a disagreement with the Egyptian Football Federation. But in the end, it turns out that the Liverpool striker will play in his country’s final game against Saudi Arabia this evening.
The Egyptian team have been based in the Chechnyan capital, Grozny for the duration of the World Cup. And according to Egyptian media Globoesporte, Salah was upset following a meeting between the Egyptian team and the leader of the Republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadirov, who posted a photograph of himself and the Egyptian star on social media, and named the player as an honorary citizen of the Republic of Chechnya.

Salah was pictured smiling together with Kadirov at a gala dinner on Friday night, during which he received a badge and a copy of the decree of his citizenship. The player was reportedly bothered by that fact that Kadirov used his image without his consent and for political means.
This is the second time Salah has had a disagreement with the Egyptian Federation over the unauthorized use of his image. In April the player was angered by the use of his image on the national team plane, which appeared alongside the logo of the official team sponsor WE. Salah has a sponsorship deal with a rival telecommunications firm, Vodafone.

Mohamed Salah signs new long-term deal with Liverpool

Super Salah signs

Salah had a remarkable first season with Liverpool, scoring 44 goals in all competitions and helping the club reach the Champions League final. He was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year.
"I think this news can be seen for what it is; rewarding a person who performed and contributed greatly for the team and the club last season," manager Jürgen Klopp told the club's website.

Klopp: it's all about belief

"It demonstrates two things very clearly also - his belief in Liverpool and our belief in him."
"Mo reflects where we are as a team, I think. Last season was special with many special moments - but we want more."
The 26-year-old netted 32 times in the Premier League, breaking the record for the most goals scored in a 38-game season, and helped the Merseyside club to a fourth-place finish.

Salah recounts driving mishaps: "I had a couple of accidents"

Plundering goals appeared easy for Mohamed Salah upon his arrival at Liverpoollast year, but adjusting to British road conditions was apparently more of an issue for the Egypt star. The Reds signed Salah from Roma for an initial fee of £36.9million in June 2017, and he repaid that investment handsomely by scoring 44 times in all competitions

Keep left

The 26-year-old had already experienced a taste of life in the UK after moving from Basel to Chelsea in 2014. But it seems getting behind the wheel remained a tricky prospect following his big-money switch to Merseyside.

Hitting the curb

"In the first few week it was hard, I had couple of accidents when I did drive on the sidewalk, but then everything worked just fine," he said during a commercial appearance with two Egyptian actors.

Asked what his favourite prize is of the many accolades he accumulated in 2017-18, Salah replied: "[The Premier League's] golden boot for sure, I had to work hard for that, and concentrate on every match to score, also I had to fight for it with a great players as Harry Kane and [Sergio] 'Kun' Aguero."

Salah recalls a particularly eager autograph hunter

A hugely popular figure in his home country, Salah revealed that on one occasion, a seemingly brief act of generosity with a supporter left him facing a steady influx of well-wishers arriving at his home.  "Once I was at home in Egypt, a fan knocked my door and asked to take a picture with me, I agreed, two hours later he came back with about eight people and asked me to take pictures with them and I agreed," he said. "At night the door knocked again, I opened and found him and there is a bus behind him full of people, I asked him 'what are you trying to do?'. He told me that he told them to come take pictures with Salah, and that he is going to bring more people the next day..."

James Milner believes Liverpool's record-breaking forward Mohamed Salah can go one better for the Reds in 2018-19.

James Milner insists Mohamed Salah is not a one-season wonder, with the Liverpool veteran confident his star team-mate can enjoy another record-breaking campaign. Salah took Anfield by storm last season, scoring 44 goals in all competitions and 32 in the Premier League following his arrival from Roma.

Salah's stunning season

The Egyptian, who suffered a shoulder injury in Liverpool's Champions League finaldefeat to Real Madrid, walked away with the Premier League's Golden Boot and Player of the Year among other individual honours. After Salah was right back among the goals with a flicked header in Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, Milner believes the Egyptian sensation can build on his 2017-18 exploits.
"The best players in the world aren't known because they just did it in one season, they do it over and over again. He is more than capable of doing that," Milner said. "I think obviously there is pressure when you've had one good year to deliver again. I think he's a top player, he's shown that and he's going to keep improving. We need to keep improving as a side with him as well and make sure that all the pressure is not on his shoulders to deliver goals and get us out of tough situations. It's down to all of us to help him be the best player he can and do that as part of a team."
Salah's performances alerted some of Europe's giants, with Champions League holders Madrid linked at one point to the 26-year-old. However, the player signed a new five-year contract earlier in July to pledge his future to Liverpool.

I knew Mo would stay - Milner

"I was never worried, personally," Milner said. "There's always going to be stories when players do well. You saw how well he played last season, improving, and he seems happy so I don't see any reason why he'd want to go. That's what happens when you have good players. That's a positive thing for us that when there's speculation about your players it means that they are playing well and performing, and he obviously has."

Mohamed Salah branded ‘the world’s greatest goal hanger’ by former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp

26, tapped home from close range against Manuel Pellegrini's side after getting on the end of a low cross from left-back Andrew Robertson.
And after being at the right place at the right time, Redknapp labelled Salah as a "goal hanger" after followed the ball into the box.

Understandably, his accusation caused quite the stir on social media, with some supporters seeing the funny side, while some called the ex-Reds midfielder out.
One person commented: "Redknapp thinks this is school lunchtime football and called Salah a goal hanger LOOOOOOOOL."
While another said: "The greatest goal hanger of all-time? Deary me, Redknapp."
Salah is looking to retain the Premier League Golden Boot after he banged in 32  goals in the top-flight last campaign

Mohamed Salah's Golden Boot hopes dismissed by Dimitar Berbatov with Harry Kane tipped for top prize

Dimitar Berbatov has dismissed Mohamed Salah's hopes of retaining the Golden Boot.
The former Manchester United star and Premier League top scorer in 2010/11 has instead tipped Harry Kane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku to battle it out.

The Bulgarian bizarrely omitted the Reds hero, despite his prolific season, while he also offered up his top four predictions, as reported by football.london.
He does tip Jurgen Klopp's side to finish inside the top four with one of his former club's Spurs also making it, in second he believes. That means Arsenal and Chelsea will miss out again.
"I think the top Premier League goal scorer will be Harry Kane," Berbatov told BetFair . "It's a tough call, there's also Aubameyang because he had a solid first season in the league and will want to build that in his second season with a new coach.
"There's Romelu Lukaku who performed well at the World Cup.
"Out of those three, I would have to say Kane. He had a tremendous World Cup campaign, will have even more confidence in himself and these aspects helps a striker.
"Harry Kane should be aiming for 30 or more goals again. You don't want to relax after having a season like that, you should be aiming to improve, and I bet he's thinking the same thing.
"His confidence will be booming with his achievements over the summer and coming off that he'll have the knowledge on how to break down the teams with solid defences.
"He should be aiming for the Golden Boot but even if he doesn't get there and scores 20 goals, that's still a lot."
Last season Salah scored 32 goals to set a new record for a 38-game Premier League season.

Mo Salah raring to go ahead of new season after recovering from shoulder injury

Mo Salah insists he will head into the new season fully fit after recovering from the shoulder injury that ended his Champions League final.
The Liverpool forward, who was named PFA and FWA Footballer of the year after a debut season with the Reds that brought him 44 goals, was forced off in the first half of the 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid after tangling with Spanish hatchet man Sergio Ramos.

Salah then missed the opening game of Egypt's World Cup campaign against Uruguay before scoring twice from the penalty spot in defeats at the hands od Russia and Saudi Arabia.
But the man who scored a Premier League record 38 goals last season following his £38million arrival from Roma is fully recovered for the new campaign.
Salah, speaking ahead of Liverpool's friendly against Manchester United in the Michigan Stadium, said: "I am very happy to be back.
"I feel good and my shoulder is much better. I’m very happy to be back in the squad.
"Last year I had a great season – everyone, not just me.

Mohamed Salah lands fresh award nomination - but is up against Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has another award nomination.
The Egypt superstar is up for the best forward award in last season's Champions League, after notching 11 goals in the Reds run to the final, reports the Press Association.

He is up for the award alongside Cristiano Ronaldo - who left Madrid for Juventus earlier in the summer - and Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
Manchester City were thrashed 5-1 on aggregate by Premier League rivals Liverpool at the quarter-final stage but that has not stopped Kevin De Bruyne being nominated in the best midfielders category.
The Belgium international joins Real Madrid pair Toni Kroos and Luka Modric as the trio of players up for that award.
New Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker could also be named as the Champions League's best goalkeeper for his performances at former club Roma, but the Brazilian will need to see off Madrid's Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Buffon - who played for Juventus but is now at Paris St Germain.
The best defender award will definitely go to a Real Madrid player as Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane are the three nominees.

Mo Salah hugs young pitch invader after he interrupts Liverpool's win over West Ham - and fans love gesture

Mo Salah reintroduced himself to the Premier League with a goal and a kind gesture to a young pitch invader in Liverpool's win over West Ham on Sunday.
Last season's Golden Boot winner opened the scoring for the Reds on the 19 minute mark, as the home side stormed to a 4-0 victory over the Hammers at Anfield.

Everything flowed smoothly for Jurgen Klopp's men on the day, but the match was in fact interrupted at one point when a young pitch invader leaped over the advertising hoardings and ran onto the field of play.
Sky Sports cameras captured the young boy as he made a beeline for Salah, who he immediately pulled in for a hug.

But Salah dealt with the situation in a brilliant way, hugging the youngster, chatting to him, and quickly and kindly escorting him off the pitch

We've seen players react badly to pitch invaders in the past - think Dejan Lovren at the World Cup for Croatia, for instance.

Why Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will have point to prove at Liverpool this season

If, as David Coleman once memorably opined, goals pay the rent, then expect the surrounds of Liverpool's celebrated front three to be positively palatial.
Never before has a Reds forward line proved as devastating, as clinical, as feared as the triumvirate of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane last season.
Between them, they accrued a total of 91 goals between them, each player with their own individual tale to tell.

For Salah, a return of 44 goals was the second-highest in Liverpool's history. Only Ian Rush, with 47, has scored more in a single campaign.
It was enough to not only make the Egyptian the club's Player of the Season, but also be voted the PFA Player of the Year and the Footballer of the Year.
Not bad for a player who arrived at Anfield with the reputation of having been a Premier League failure at Chelsea, and with question marks over his £36.9million fee.
What a bargain that looks now.
For Firmino, his tally of 27 was the best of his career, highlighted by no-look finishes and a penchant for the flamboyant.
Not bad for a player who 12 months ago was still being viewed with suspicion as a centre forward. However, the false number nine took on the shirt and embraced the position as his own.
And for Mane, there was an improvement on his debut season with a 20-goal haul.
Half of those came in the Champions League, with Mane joining the exclusive club of Liverpool players to have scored in the final.
Not bad for a player who, for the first half of the term, was in danger of losing his regular starting role amid whispers over whether the Senegalese had run his course at Anfield.
Quite the season for the forwards.
Given such outstanding form, then, it seems remarkable to contemplate the trio will have a point to prove this term.
But the finale of last season, and their subsequent experiences at the World Cup, will surely have instilled all three with even greater hunger this time around.
Salah's determination is the most obvious, not least to show he is more than just a one-season wonder, a statistical freak that won't be repeated.
His Champions League final ended in the agony of the shoulder injury suffered during the first-half tangle with Sergio Ramos, only able to watch as Liverpool tumbled to a 3-1 defeat.
The fallout lingered.
“He sent me a message, but I never told him it was 'okay',” said Salah of Ramos reaching out after the incident.
“My comment is that it's always okay when the one who made you cry first, then makes you laugh. Maybe he could also tell me if I'm going to be ready for the World Cup?”
